Peer Review’d Leech Study

It occurred to me recently that someone, at some time, must have been the first person to think that bleeding with leeches might be a pretty good treatment for ailing blood, poor humors, etc. I can only assume this guy did his due diligence and tested his theory out on willing specimens, followed by holding up his findings to peer review through publishing. I imagine the study announcement to be something like this.
